In July 1983 Ed Walz joined the United States Army as a Field Artilleryman and went to Fort Sill Oklahoma for Basic Training and Artillery School. In October Ed shipped to Ansbach Germany for 18 months with the 210 Field Artillery Brigade. In 1985 he was reassigned to the 197th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning Georgia where Ed finished the remainder of his active service.
Ed 's Reserve time was with the 5/5 Field Artillery in Fort Tilden NY. In January 1991 he shipped to Southwest Asia for Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm.
After Ed returned, he served with the 800 Military Police Brigade in Uniondale NY until he was Honorably Discharge in 1999 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
